Congratulations to Portage Ceramic Awards Finalist Madeleine Child

Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery and The Trusts Community Foundation are delighted to present The Portage Ceramic Awards 2015. Established in 2001, The Portage Ceramic Awards is New Zealand's premier showcase for ceramic arts. Administered by Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery, the awards are the country's best-known barometer for developments in the field of ceramics.


It's hand picked, carefully selected. It's readymade , a Readymade. It's a lump, lumpen. It's two faced, five faced, red faced,  blue faced.

It's ikebana. It's trial and error. It's form not function.

It's spotty, freckled. It's Gaucho's nose. It's gift wrapped, a twig pot. It's drilled, filled, chipped.

It's plastic. It's mostly kaolinite with some smectite and quartz sand. It's sedimentary. It's in a coal measure. It's relatively rare.  It's uku.
