Kerry Ann Lee: I Have Always Been Here Before

Kerry Ann Lee’s current work explores the notion of the ‘Memory Palace’ where ancient Greeks and Romans used visualization as a ‘method of location’ to organize and recall information.

  • Opening Date: Tuesday, 28 October 2014
  • Closing Date: Sunday, 16 November 2014
  • Opening Time: Tues to Fri 11-6pm, Sat 11-4pm

Lee's dreamscapes collapse time, space and place and are drawn from both real life and imagined encounters.

Through using found and constructed image-based photographic materials, Lee's work references moments and motifs - a conflation of multiple time-space places, both physical and imagined places encountered over recent years. The result is a collection of 'visual mnemonics'.

Dreams are residual 'cultural products' from these memory palaces. Song lyrics, diary entries, and last century's flotsam and jetsam are recast as souvenirs from un/familiar destinations -multi-memoried sites for escape, reinvention, desire and disaster.

"Nothing that surrounds us is object, all is subject."― André Breton
